Two words.

Van

ROAD TRIP!

Yes, indeedy, the day of our departure on the annual quasi-pseudo-camping vacation approaches. A couple weeks ago Our Man Lennie replaced the transmission in the $750 mini-motorhome, and last week one of Lennie's Minions painted it. (When you only pay $750 for a vehicle, you can justify putting another thou into it.)

On Sunday I started cleaning the inside, but ran out of energy right about even with the back edge of those side doors. There was stuff filling the empty space in the rest, and I didn't have the energy to move it. Yeah, sometimes I'm kinda… low energy.

Another view:

Van w mine

Big honker, isn't it? Especially sitting next to my minivan. If we get 12 mpg we will be thrilled.

Mea culpa for the massive carbon footprint we will leave.

Van cab Here is the cab, complete with Smokey's briefcase and trash. Note the curtains, which can be pulled all the way around the front to cover the windshield for privacy when we are parked. He put in a new oak drink holder rack in the center and showed me the new oak dashboard cover for the instrument cluster.

He is like a kid with a new toy, which, really, is exactly what he is right now. After 35 years of vacations in VW microbuses and conversion vans and a camping trailer, this will be perfect.

The itchy rash, while still present and ugly and itchy, seems to be slightly better. I will still see the dermatologist on Tuesday, but I am hopeful that our vacation will not be cursed with The Itch.

Safe travels and happy vacation knitting.

  2. Eleanor says:

As you prepare for your summer vacation I thought I’d quickly check in and tell you that your divine scarf has reappeared in my wardrobe as winter is now upon us Down Under. Your scarf brightens and warms my days, and I think of you often.
    Eleanor xxxx

  3. Chris says:

    Looks very spacious!!
    Sending anti-itching thoughts your way…

  4. soxanne says:

Ohhhh, My two words: have fun!
And don’t worry about that carbon footprint – you’ll still be doing less damage than those of us who fly everywhere. (mea maxima culpa)
Be sure to post pictures for us.

  5. Vicki says:

Can you raise the roof? And is it sort of like a camper? I’m not so savvy with the conversion vans… sure looks spacious and comfy, tho!

  6. tinebeest says:

What soxanne says. Next year, better get yourself a tandem or a rail pass if you want a low-carbon holiday! (or do what we did last year, and actually go on holiday less than 20 miles from your front door. We took the bus…)
    Enjoy!

  7. Bullwinkle says:

Oh excellent! Close the door and go!! (And lots of space for yarn (you know, under the seat.)
Safe travels! (Good luck with the dr tomorrow.)

  8. gayle says:

Hoping the doctor has a simple explanation and solution. Itch, itch, go away…
Looks like you’ll be knitting and camping in style!

  9. k says:

I am so flamingly jealous. In my own low-energy sort of way.

  10. Gillian says:

Super-looking van! We have a camper but it’s not so comfy-seeming. I have little desire to go. Good luck with the MD; let us know.

  11. Diane says:

You know, that looks like fun. Will you sleep in the van or a tent? Be sure to remember us and take lots of pics.

  12. Cookie says:

    Woo Hoo!
Lennie and the Minions did a great job.
Fingers crossed it’s an itchless holiday!
    xo

  13. marianne says:

Hope the rash is going away, getting better.
