This is what Google looks like on your birthday:

On my birthday:

  1. I did a good deed. ‘Nuf said.
  2. We went out to dinner. The restaurant* we went to was near the theatre where we saw the movie, which was why we chose it. Sadly, I cannot recommend it. My Imperial Prawns had very large and tasty  shrimp and big chunks of fresh mushrooms, but the rest of the vegies were uninteresting. Mostly, though, I objected to some [probably authentic] Asian flavor that I didn’t care for. Miso, perhaps? And Smokey’s Spicy Singapore Noodles, while more spicy that usual (which is A Good Thing), were rather dried out, as though the dish had sat too long under heat lamps before being served. In the grand scheme of things, these were only minor deficiencies; still, it would have been nice to have a dinner we could rave about.
  3. We saw Mr. Holmes. Smokey commented when it was over that it was a very BBC kind of movie, meaning no car chases, no explosions, no glamorous nymphets or hunky men — just great acting, authentic period details, and a good story. We always stay through the credits at the end of a movie. One of the crew was “Knitter”! I’m not sure what she knitted, though — the knitted garments I noticed didn’t necessarily look much different from what one could find in a store. Tragically, the knitter is not listed in the [supposedly] full cast and crew page on IMDb.

When you are reading this, Smokey is having a colonoscopy. Poor baby has been on clear liquids since noon on Tuesday. (The VA has a very restrictive colonoscopy protocol.) I foresee a celebratory dinner after we leave the hospital. I also predict that I will finish a pair of socks that have been OTN for months and probably get a good start on the second sock of a pair with the same sad history. That will reduce my WIP sock inventory to a mere three pairs.

This is what Younger Son has been working on in his spare time since February.

He has ridden in it in previous years, and this year he volunteered to be one of the organizers. Another of the organizers works in marketing and has done a whole branding campaign for the event; YS, as the computer geek, is in charge of data input during the race ride. He told me he will probably be spending 12 hours in front of a screen on Saturday. I told him that sounded like fun. We geeks have our own ideas of fun.

Speaking of YS, he showed me this site — Sidewalk Dog: the Twin Cities Unleashed. Also, this one — Cyclopath: Discover Your Path. Sometimes I lament that I no longer live in Minneapolis. As much as I love it here, it really sucks for progressive and forward-thinking  and people-oriented — as opposed to big business-oriented — innovation.

* To Loreen: that fabulous Thai restaurant in WBL that you introduced me to is currently closed for the owner’s annual visit to Thailand 😦  We would have gone there if it had been open.
