Surgery was Tuesday, just like last time, and he came home on Thursday, just like last time. The difference is that this time the new knee hurts when he walks, but there is absolutely no pain when he is sitting or lying down. That is probably better than the deep pain he felt last time whenever resting and which kept him from sleeping. Because this pain will go away with time and healing. Of course, the previous pain went away eventually, too.
The first thing he said to me when I arrived at his hospital room: I was really happy to wake up in the recovery room because it meant I hadn’t died.
I only had to wait on him hand and foot for less than a day, then he was up and about — albeit very slowly — with his walker. Pain meds are doing their job, once again, without nausea (yay!)
